What Does God Say About Our Pursuit of Money?

The Word of God provides wisdom when it comes to money. There are so many scriptures about money that I often wondered why, but watching the behavior of some rich people I came to an understanding.

It stands to reason that God provided warnings about our pursuit to acquire the riches of this world. Yes, we all have a need for money because that's how we maintain the necessities of life. But we do not have to do things out of our godly character to get money. Our job as children of the Most High God is to look to Him to provide our needs. He knows exactly what we need and when we need it.

The pursuit of money leads to all kinds of negative and evil consequences. The song holds true that says,

For the love of money People will lie, Lord, they will cheat. For the love of money People don't care who they hurt or beat For the love of money.

GREED is the name of that money game. Today I want to share some wisdom from the Word of God about our pursuit of that mean ol' green.

I recall one of my sons telling me that he is going to buy me a house when he gets rich. He said, "If I'm rich then you are too." I told him that I was already rich because my Father in heaven owns everything anyway. I told him when he gets rich to make sure he gives back to God and to make sure he takes care of his children, like God takes care of us.

Here are six scriptures, though there are many more regarding money. Please write these down, then go back and search the Word of God for others.

Philippians 4:19 NLT - "And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus."

Luke 12:21 NLT - “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”

Proverbs 13:11 NLT - "Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time."

Romans 13:8 (NKJV) - "Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law."

Acts 20:35 (NLT) - "And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’"

2 Timothy 3:2 (NKJV) - "For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,"
