Recreation is Okay

Updated: Mar 15, 2022

rec·re·a·tion - n. Defined as "refreshment of one's mind or body after work through activity that amuses or stimulates; play."

Let me start by saying, we are NOT sinning when we are having fun. We simply have to pay attention to God's principles laid out for godly living whenever we engage in any type of fun activity. Pay attention, that we do not cause others to stumble and fall into sins. Pay attention, that what we are doing won't cause ourselves to fall into sin.

Colossians 3:17 states, "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." This means that even having fun can be done in accordance with God's standards. You see God wants us to enjoy life and part of this is having fun; which causes us to experience JOY! And we read in Proverbs 17:22 that a cheerful heart is good medicine.

Take a look at the base word of “recreation”; “re-create” which means to create again or to “renew or to "restore.” Psalm 103:5 syas, "He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s" and Psalm 13:3b says, restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die. God allows us this time of leisure to be renewed and to grow in our faith. So, it behooves us to enjoy our time of recreation. I believe it is a gift from God. You see the Bible tells us that every good and perfect gift is from the Lord (James 117).

So, recreation is okay! Go have some fun!

Prayer: Lord God of everything created, we thank for the gift of recreation which allows us to be restored in mind, body and spirit. Thank you that it renews our youth like that of an eagle. Let's be reminded to do all things, including have fun, in the preciousness of Jesus Christ. We bless and honor always. All glory to Your holy name. We pray these things and all things in Jesus name. Amen.
