We often ask God to bless us. Truth be told, we are already blessed. We are blessed to have a Father who knows exactly what we need when we need it. If you have a roof over your head, you are blessed. If you have a stable and consistent income, you are blessed. If you have clothes to wear daily, you are blessed. If you have to eat sandwiches every day, you are blessed to have food. How often do we stop and acknowledge and thank God for these blessings? We often take these for granted. We feel entitled instead of blessed.
Jesus reminded us how blessed we are to have a Father who is mindful of our needs. In Matthew 6:30-33 He said, "But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Our part in this is to seek after the heart of God above worldly things. We are already blessed to have a Savior who sees about us. To be blessed is not about having material things, it is about having a relationship with Jesus. As Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:3, "we are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him." Our real blessing is in the fact that Christ makes us holy and blameless before God. This is something we could never do for ourselves. We are already blessed!
